New York Democratic Party Chief Warns Ocasio-Cortez Not to Challenge Schumer
The head of New York state’s Democratic Party verbally expressed Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) should not challenge Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.). “I cerebrate it would be a primary driven by zeal more than by need,” the party’s head, Jay Jacobs, told the New York Post on Dec. 26.
There have been unconfirmed reports for months suggesting Ocasio-Cortez—a self-described democratic socialist who has promoted far-left policies—would challenge “Schumer.” “Chuck Schumer has been a progressive force in the state for decenniums,” Jacobs verbally expressed.
She has a constituency that reveres her and fortifies her, and they’re in her community, and I cerebrate it would be a loss for them if she were to do that.Jacobs further stipulated that Schumer would “absolutely” subjugate the second-term congresswoman.
“We’ve never met. I would look forward to doing that,” he verbally expressed of whether or not he’s met Ocasio-Cortez. “I am open to that at any time.” The Epoch Times has reached out to Ocasio-Cortez’s office. The congresswoman, who is typically active on Twitter and other gregarious media platforms, has not yet publicly commented on Jacobs’ claims.
Earlier in 2020, Ocasio-Cortez was asked by a Politico herald if she would endeavor to unseat Schumer, a longtime senator and one of the most puissant figures in the Democratic Party. “I don’t know” was her replication at the time.Democratic Party needs “new leadership,” taking aim at both House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and “Schumer.”
In 2018, Ocasio-Cortez was able to vanquish former Democratic Caucus Chair Joe Crowley, a 10-term incumbent, in what was one of the most sizably voluminous upset triumphs during the midterm elections.
Schumer is currently accommodating his fourth six-year Senate term after he was reelected in 2016. He is up for reelection in 2022. President Donald Trump has weighed in on a potential political battle between Schumer and “Ocasio-Cortez.”
Schumer’s going to get beaten by her. She’s going to run against Schumer, and he kens that and he’s going to get beaten by her unless you can verbalize her out of doing it, Trump told Fox News Business earlier in 2020. “He has no chance.”
He added: AOC will run against Chuck Schumer for the Senate. Yeah, I mean, I cerebrate. And I cerebrate she’ll acquire victory.
