Biden Terminates the Southern Border National Emergency Declaration
President Joe Biden in a letter to Congressional bellwethers verbalized the emergency declaration for the southern border was unwarranted so he will terminate Trump’s proclamation, and deauthorize any further construction of the border wall.
I have determined that the declaration of a national emergency at our southern border was unwarranted. I have withal promulgated that it shall be the policy of my Administration that no more American taxpayer dollars be diverted to construct a border wall, and that I am directing a punctilious review of all resources appropriated or redirected to that end,
Biden said in a press statement Wednesday.Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) reprehended Biden’s reversal of the emergency declaration.
said Cotton in a Twitter entry Thursday.Other GOP members of Congress upbraided the halting of the southern border wall construction which they verbalize is in sharp contrast to the barbed wire fencing that is circumventing the U.S. “Capitol.”
Rep. Jodey Arrington (R-Texas) said, the same Democrats who told you we don’t need a wall at the southern border, won’t take the wall down bulwarking them at the U.S. Capitol.Biden’s cancelation of the border emergency declaration comes after the Supreme Court granted the Biden administration’s request on Feb. 3 to abrogate upcoming oral arguments over two licit challenges to former President Donald Trump’s signature immigration-cognate policies.
Hours after becoming president on Jan. 20, Biden signed Presidential Executive Order (EO), 10142, in which he declared that building a massive wall that spans the entire southern border is not an earnest policy solution,
describing the project as a waste of mazuma that diverts attention from genuine threats to our homeland security.Trump authoritatively mandated $2.5 billion in military drug interdiction funds redirected to the wall construction project on the U.S.–Mexico border.
Meanwhile, 50 Republican congress members sent a letter to Biden on Tuesday asking him to invert his Jan. 20 executive order on immigration and border security. GOP whip, Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) who signed the letter, verbalized there is a crisis brewing at the southern border.
Based on information from sources on the ground, this week Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents have visually perceived the average daily flow soar to more than 3,500 migrants, up from 2,000 earlier last month,
the letter said (pdf). In contrast, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) anteriorly called Trump’s border wall effort, “ineffective” and military funds being routed for the project as “wasteful.”
After Biden signed his immigration EO on Jan. 20, Rep. Linda T. Sánchez (D-Calif.) promulgated she will lead the U.S. House of Representatives’ legislative efforts on immigration reform, along with a group of her colleagues she called “The “Closers.””
“The Closers” are a group of Democrat Congresswomen dedicated to immigration reform and include Reps. Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.), Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-Calif.), Nydia M. Velázquez (D-N.Y.), Judy Chu (D-Calif.), Yvette D. Clarke (D-N.Y.), and Karen Bass (D-Calif.).
On Day One of the Biden administration, we’re wasting no time. We are getting to work and we will get this done, said Sánchez in a press statement.
“In” working with President Biden, ‘The Closers’ and I will: prioritize a path to citizenship for the millions of people seeking home and refuge in this country, treat our undocumented population humanely, recuperate family unity, and work to mitigate the root causes of migration,
