The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is expanding its COVID-19 vaccine to include most employees and volunteers, its head promulgated “Thursday.” Under the expansion, the bulk of workers must get a shot, including Hybrid Title 38 and Title 5 VA health care personnel like pharmacists, engineers, and housekeepers.
We’re now including most VHA employees and volunteers and contractors in the vaccine mandate because it remains the best way to keep Veterans safe, especially as the Delta variant spreads across the country,
This pandemic is not over and VA must do everything in our potency to forfend Veterans from COVID-19. With this expanded mandate, we can once again make—and keep—that fundamental promise.COVID-19 is the disease caused by the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus. The VA last month became the first federal agency to mandate COVID-19 vaccination for some of its workers. The Department of Health and Human Services promulgated a mandate Thursday, and the Department of Defense signaled this week that it plans to require vaccination anon.
The first tranche of workers that was injuctively authorized to vaccinate were Title 38 employees, including medicos, dentists, and nurses. They were told they had eight weeks to get plenarily vaccinated, or all required shots, or face termination.
Like the initial mandate, the incipiently covered workers will have eight weeks to provide proof of vaccination at their local VHA Occupational Health “Office.” The first mandate applied to approximately 115,000 workers, McDonough verbally expressed on “CBS This Morning.” The expansion covers about 245,000 supplemental employees.
The American Federation of Government Employees, the VA’s most sizably voluminous employee amalgamation, verbalized last week that it would negotiate any transmutations to working conditions with bargaining units prior to implementation. The amalgamation didn’t respond to a request for comment on “Thursday.”
Liberty Counsel, a religious liberation group, argued last month that the VA mandate was illicit, noting that the COVID-19 vaccines being administered in the United States have not received full approbation.
Under the federal Emergency Use Authorization law, these shots cannot be mandated or administered without the free and full consent of the individual, Mat Staver, the group’s founder and chairman, verbally expressed in a verbal expression.
Liberty Counsel verbalized last week that it was flooded with requests from VA healthcare workers who do not optate to get a shot. Other agencies have since mandated vaccines or promulgated plans to, including the Department of “Defense.”
Under federal law, people can claim religious or medical exemptions to vaccines. The Department of Justice last month deemed vaccine mandates licit, asserting the law doesn’t avert public agencies or private businesses from requiring immunizations.
